The Borneo Asli story
In Borneo, edible bird’s nest is more than a delicacy. It is part of a story connecting forests and caves, local livelihoods, trading communities and generations of family traditions.
Borneo Asli begins in Sarawak, our home. Inspired by its landscapes—from the mist-covered limestone mountains of Mulu to its ancient rainforests—we bring a sense of place and a commitment to quality to every product we offer.
Our journey starts with one of Borneo’s most treasured foods: edible bird’s nest.
A heritage shaped by nature and trade
For generations, bird’s nest harvesting has formed part of Sarawak’s cultural and economic life. At Niah, collectors worked high within the caves, while traders gathered to exchange the nests. The remains of Traders’ Cave offer a reminder of this once-busy meeting place and the livelihoods built around it. (Sarawak Tourism Board)
This heritage reaches beyond Sarawak. In neighbouring Sabah, Gomantong is also closely associated with edible bird’s nests, reflecting the wider place of this delicacy in Borneo’s history. (Sabah Tourism Board)
Over time, the industry has developed beyond traditional cave harvesting to include dedicated swiftlet buildings and a wider network of collectors, producers, processors and traders. In Sarawak, licensing provisions cover activities within the bird’s nest industry, including swiftlet farming. (Forest Department Sarawak)
For Borneo Asli, this history is a source of pride—and a reminder that a valued product deserves careful handling and honest representation.
Quality begins with the raw nest
We source carefully selected, high-quality raw edible bird’s nests from Sarawak and Sabah for processing into our finished products.
Our approach begins with the raw material. Selection matters because each nest has its own characteristics, and the quality of the finished product depends on both its starting condition and the care taken throughout processing.
From receiving and storage to cleaning, sorting and packing, our focus is to preserve the nest’s natural character while preparing it to meet our product specifications.
Whether chosen as strands for a special preparation or broken nest for a familiar family recipe, each product reflects the same commitment: thoughtful selection and care at every stage.
Traditional value, disciplined processing
We believe trust should be supported by the way a product is handled.
Our bird’s nest processing follows HACCP requirements, with food-safety controls extending through processing, storage and packing. HACCP—Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points—provides a systematic approach to identifying and controlling food-safety hazards.
Our bird’s nest products are processed, stored and packed within the scope of Halal certification issued by Jabatan Agama Islam Sarawak (JAIS).
These commitments support the care behind our products and help customers make informed choices with confidence. Applicable certification details are available on request.
A thoughtful gift, a shared tradition
For many families, preparing bird’s nest is an expression of care. It may be served during a family gathering, prepared for someone special or presented as a considered gift.
Borneo Asli honours that meaning. We aim to offer premium bird’s nest products that people can choose with confidence, supported by clear information about their origin, preparation and storage.
To us, quality is more than appearance. It is the care taken with the raw material, the discipline of processing and the responsibility we accept when a customer chooses our name.
From Sarawak, with a wider Borneo vision
Bird’s nest is the beginning of our collection.
As Borneo Asli grows, we hope to introduce more products from across Borneo—products that reflect the region’s character, knowledge and traditions. Our purpose remains rooted in Sarawak: to help people discover Borneo through products selected and presented with care.
